About Fairlawns

Fairlawns Hotel & Spa sits tucked away in Aldridge, on the Walsall side of the West Midlands. It was once a family home, now an independently run, family-owned 4-star hotel set in 12 acres of grounds. That history shows in the architecture. There's texture and character to shoot into, rather than the flat, banquet-hall feel a lot of West Midlands hotels default to.

The venue is fully licensed for civil ceremonies via Walsall Registry Office, so couples can hold the whole day on-site without travelling to a registry building. Wedding capacity is 100 day guests, 150 evening guests, expanding to 180 when the Cedar Room is included for the reception. Sixty on-site bedrooms make Fairlawns one of the easier West Midlands venues for logistics, especially for couples with travelling family.

The light, the spaces, and where the photos live

The single biggest thing that makes Fairlawns work for photography is the Garden Rooms. Wall-length glass doors on one side, a neutral palette, and that's it. Even on a flat-light Friday in October the room behaves like a massive softbox sat behind whoever's at the front. Ceremony images come out evenly lit and don't need a single bit of fill flash, which keeps the day quiet and undisturbed.

After the ceremony the day flows straight outside onto a private terrace and into the walled gardens. Twelve acres gives you real options for portraits. Wide green frames, sheltered walled corners, varied backdrops for the bridal party and couple shots. If the British weather turns, the terrace is undercover and the Garden Rooms remain available for cleaner indoor portraits. Either way the day doesn't fall apart.

By evening the day shifts visually. The Cedar Room is the bigger evening space, with atmospheric lighting and a parquet dancefloor. Same wedding, completely different photographic feel. Couples who book Fairlawns end up with a gallery that arcs from bright morning through warm garden golden hour into moody first-dance reception. That arc is the strongest thing about the venue from a working photographer's perspective.

A family-led autumn wedding for a couple who'd been together over twenty years before formalising it. Daughter singing in the ceremony, speeches from every part of the family, fish and chips on the terrace in the evening. The Garden Rooms light did the work for the ceremony coverage.

Common questions about Fairlawns Hotel weddings

Is Fairlawns Hotel a good wedding venue for photography?

Yes. The Garden Rooms ceremony space has wall-length glass doors that act like a giant softbox, giving consistently bright ceremony images even on overcast days. Twelve acres of walled gardens and a private terrace provide varied portrait locations.

The evening Cedar Room with parquet dancefloor and atmospheric lighting gives the day a strong visual arc from bright morning to moody evening.

What is the wedding capacity at Fairlawns Hotel?

Fairlawns can host 100 day guests for the wedding breakfast and 150 for the evening reception, expanding to 180 with the Cedar Room. There are 60 on-site bedrooms for overnight stays.

Where is Fairlawns Hotel located?

Fairlawns Hotel & Spa is in Aldridge on the Walsall side of the West Midlands. Independently run, family-owned 4-star hotel and spa, set in 12 acres of grounds. Licensed for civil ceremonies via Walsall Registry Office.

What's the best time of year to photograph a wedding at Fairlawns?

Every season works, but each has a different feel. Late spring to early autumn (May–September) makes the walled gardens the star. Autumn brings warm colour into the grounds. Winter pushes more of the day indoors, where the Garden Rooms still deliver strong natural light. The Cedar Room evening reception looks the same year-round.
