Over the past year we documented The Stafford Mihrab, a community art installation commissioned for the Stafford Muslim Community Centre's new mosque, unveiled for Eid 2026.
The project was part of Interlaced: Islamic Art in British Life, an 18-month initiative led by Nadia El-Sebai of The Arab British Centre, supported by the Barakat Trust's Hands-on Islamic Art Grant and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
We followed the project from the beginning — workshops exploring Islamic geometric patterns and local Staffordshire pottery heritage, through to the final installation of a hand-stitched fabric mihrab made by craftsmen in Cairo's Street of the Tentmakers.
It brought together designs created by community members aged two to eighty, and transformed a former warehouse into a place of worship in time for Eid 2026. The finished piece is now on display at the V&A Wedgwood Collection, Barlaston.
